100 Bank Debtors Owe N953bn – AMCON


the list of 100 chronic bank debtors released by Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) shows that they owe a total of N953.43 billion.


Last week, the state asset company took over the assets of the Silverbird Group and Afrijet Airlines Ltd over unpaid debts.


Top on the list the 100 debtors is Seawolf Oil Services Ltd which is in debt to the tune of N160.09 billion, a loan the corporation bought over from First Bank Nigeria Ltd. Seawolf is the owner of the two oil rigs abandoned at Marina end of Lagos, Orisetimeyin and Onome.


A statement issued by the corporation said, “further to our various publications advising debtors to come and settle their obligations with us, and in line with the directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) instructing us to publish the list of 217 chronic debtors, we hereby present a list of 100 out of a total of 12,744 obligors on our books, being the first batch of many to be published. The listed debtors are hereby advised to engage us for resolution of their unpaid obligations.”


Also listed in the 100 debtors list are Capital Oil and Gas Industries Ltd owned by Ifeanyi Ubah, with a debt of N104.8 billion bought over from Union Bank, Skye, Zenith, Intercontinental and FBN.


Tanzila Petroleum Ltd also owes the Corporation N49.23 billion bought over from Intercontinental Bank and Guaranty Trust Bank, while Resort International Ltd and Home Trust Saving are indebted to AMCON to the tune of N36.3 billion and N25.75 billion, which was bought over from FBN, Zenith, Enterprise, Keystone, Access, Mainstreet, Oceanic and Union banks.
