The Ebola virus was a major cause for concern in 2014 as the virus swept through the whole of west Africa and which particularly had most Nigerians avoiding close contact with people in public spaces while adopting the routine use of hand sanitizers.

The Ebola virus or Ebola viral disease (EVD) cause a severe and often fatal hemorrhagic fever in humans and other mammals. The natural reservoir of Ebola virus is believed to be fruit bats and it is primarily transmitted between humans and from animals to humans through body fluids.

The first case in Nigeria was observed in a Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer, who flew from Liberia to Nigeria’s most populous city of Lagos on the 20th of July 2014 en-route calabar, cross rivers state for a conference. Sawyer however became violently ill on his arrival at the Murtala Muhammed international Airport, Lagos and sought treatment at First Consultant Hospital, Lagos where he was admitted with fever like symptoms.

The consultant who paid the supreme price, Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh deduced that Mr Sawyer’s symptoms were similar to those of Ebola and she alongside other medical workers at the hospital made contact with the government and quarantined all who had contact with Mr. Sawyer. In response to Dr Ameyo Adadevoh’s discovery, the Nigerian government observed all persons that had  contact with Sawyer for signs of infection and increased surveillance at all entry points to the country.

This and more is what the movie 93 Days seeks to capture. The movie tells the real life story of men and women who valiantly put their lives on the line to save citizens of Nigeria from consequences of the outbreak of the highly dreaded Virus.

The movie recounts the exploits of a number of heroes including Dr Adadevoh and the Nigerian government in 2014 from the period the news broke about the virus to immediate measures put in place to stop the spread. These actions saved the country from a major epidemic which was eradicated 93 days after the disease was imported into the country.
