Diplomatic Passport: NIS Orders Arrest Of Ex-Govs, Ministers
The Nigeria Immigration Service ( NIS) said it has so far retrieved 158 Diplomatic passports from former political office holders and has also ordered the immediate arrest of defaulting ex- governors, ministers and lawmakers who are still in possession of theirs and other vital official documents.
It would be recalled that on assumption of office, the president, Muhammadu Buhari had ordered all former officials to immediately submit all vital documents, diplomatic passports inclusive to the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The new Comptroller General of NIS, Muhammad Babandede revealed that the service has retrieved another 310 official passports and ordered the arrest of former governors, ministers among others that failed to obey the directive.
He said the order for their arrest is necessary because, such persons are no longer in the eligibility list and are therefore in contravention of Section 10 of the extant Immigration Act, 2015.
Babandede also warned officers against expressing their grievances through petitions but promised to create better avenues through which their complaints would be heard. He said, “In view of the earlier publication for return of Official/Diplomatic passports by former political office holders and retired public servants, it must be noted that charges will be pressed against unauthorised holders.
